COLOR/PATTERN: Their color is gray, black, white, or any combination of these colors. The hair is smooth and short. Both sexes have horns. The females are generally short and straight while the males are longer and spiraling.

RANGE: Originally West Africa
HEIGHT: 21 inches
WEIGHT: 44 to 60 pounds
REPRODUCTION: Goats are sexually mature at 6 months of age. The normal litter is two kids.
GESTATION: 21 to 22 weeks
DIET: Grass, twigs and leaves. They are known to prosper on poor pasture.
ACTIVE: Diurnal
STATUS: Common, only found in the domestic state.
NOTES:
- Pygmy goats are agile climber due to the fact they have hair, which grows between their hooves and gives them traction on smooth surfaces.
- Goats were domesticated before 7500 B.C.
- Goats are raised for milk and meat.
- Pygmy goats are very hardy and friendly.
- Very social animals, which use group strength to protect themselves from predators.
- There are over 300 types of domestic goats.
- Male goats are called billies and females are nannies, while young are called kids.
- Kids are able to run and climb shortly after birth.
- Goat’s milk has fairly high fat content.
