Public Invited to FREE Snow Leopard Presentation at the Great Plains Zoo

Presentation scheduled for Monday, November 5th at 7:00 p.m.

The Great Plains Zoo invites the public to a free presentation on Monday, November 5th at 7:00 p.m. The presentation, entitled “Snow Leopard Trust – A Community Approach to Conservation” will be presented by Jennifer Snell Rullman, Conservation Program Director for the Snow Leopard Trust, an international organization dedicated to protecting the snow leopard and its Central Asian habitat.

Rullman will discuss how the Snow Leopard Trust uses economic partnerships with local populations in places like Pakistan and Mongolia to help preserve snow leopards and snow leopard habitat. Ms. Rullman’s job takes her to places like Kyrgyzstan where she visits with nomadic communities to educate them about the Snow Leopard Trust’s programs.

The Great Plains Zoo also will share information on how the Zoo participates in the snow leopard species survival plan through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). The Great Plains Zoo currently has two snow leopards and is working with other zoos to ensure the continued survival of this endangered species.

“The Great Plains Zoo is a national leader in working to secure the survival of 16 endangered species, and we hope that people will come out to learn more about the important work going on at our Zoo and around the world to ensure that animals like the beautiful snow leopard will be around for future generations to enjoy and appreciate,” said Zoo President and CEO Elizabeth Whealy.
