Maintenance Worker - Full Time
Job Summary
Perform cleaning and assist with maintenance and other projects in and around zoo buildings and grounds independently and as part of a maintenance team. Assists with the maintenance, alteration, and repair of buildings and related facilities and equipment. Performs cleaning of facilities, set-up and tear-down for special events and facility rentals.
Description of Duties:
- Operate various cleaning equipment.
- Assist full-time maintenance staff with repairs and projects.
- Replace light bulbs, clean windows and fixtures.
- Paint walls, ceilings, woodwork, furniture, and other equipment.
- Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and/or sound systems for conferences, zoo sponsored events, conventions, facility rentals and other activities in zoo buildings and grounds.
- Clean, sweep, scrub, mop, wax, wash, vacuum, or polish as needed floors, windows, walls, woodwork, fixtures, rugs, furniture, surfaces, cabinets, and hardware.
- Clean, disinfect, and deodorize rest rooms and replenish supplies.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
- Perform other such duties and functions as are necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position.
- May be called upon to work nights and/or weekends and holidays.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with materials, methods, and equipment employed in cleaning and maintenance operations. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. General mechanical ability is beneficial. Experience or familiarity with Windows software applications is beneficial.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
Experience in custodial and building maintenance work is beneficial. Any combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority. Possession of a valid South Dakota driver’s license is required.
Health & Safety
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must submit to a background check prior to employment. Must be certified in CPR and emergency first aid. Incumbent must be able to work in an environment that may be dusty/dirty and in varying weather and temperature conditions.
