VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS
Volunteers are the heart of the Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum. We would love to have you become a part of our dynamic volunteer team and help visitors to discover the Great Plains Zoo in new and exciting ways.
Junior ZooKeeper Program – $35 participant fee limit of 20
This volunteer program is a great opportunity for youth to spend the summer outdoors in a rewarding and professional atmosphere. The Junior Zookeeper Program can be a valuable way to develop discipline and the foundation for a good work ethic. After training, Junior Zookeepers will be involved in every aspect of working in our Children’s Zoo by being the caretakers of the animals, educators of the public, and goodwill ambassadors of the Great Plains Zoo. Due to limited space of 20 participants, an application process is in place. To aid in what is expected of each applicant, consider the guidelines before submitting an application and consent form.
PROGRAM GUIDELINES
Participants must be in 8TH thru 12TH grade, mature, able to follow directions, work with minimal supervision, and show an eagerness to learn information and share it with the public. The ability to schedule and to commit to at least two four-hour blocks each week, including Saturdays and Sundays (8:00am – Noon or 1:00 – 5:00pm) is strongly requested. The Program runs from June 5 – August 20. A Program Fee of $35.00 is charged for each successful participant. A TB screening is required. Applications and Parental Consent Forms will be accepted beginning March 1 until April 24, 2006. An interview process will begin in May 1, 2006. Successful candidates will be notified by mail by May 17, 2006. A Mandatory Training will be offered on June 1 from 10:00am – 1:30pm. Participants will be asked to bring a sack lunch.
